The STIHL HSA 40 Cordless Hedge Trimmer is a compact, lightweight garden tool engineered for trimming small and medium residential hedges, shrubs, box hedges, and annual plant growth.
As part of the STIHL AS System, the HSA 40 uses a removable lithium-ion battery that can also be used with other compatible compact STIHL tools. Its balanced design, large front handle, soft-touch rear grip, and low operating weight make it comfortable to maneuver when shaping hedge tops, vertical sides, corners, and decorative shrubs.
The trimmer features a 20-inch double-sided cutting blade manufactured with laser-cut, diamond-ground, and hardened cutting edges. This production method provides durable sharpness and helps produce clean, controlled cuts through routine hedge growth.
Operating at up to 2,800 strokes per minute, the HSA 40 delivers efficient cutting performance while producing less noise and vibration than a gasoline-powered hedge trimmer. Its cordless design eliminates extension cords, fuel mixing, exhaust fumes, pull-starting, and routine gasoline-engine servicing.
An integrated LED battery indicator lets the operator check the remaining charge during use. A screw-mounted blade-tip protector helps prevent damage when trimming close to walls or near the ground, while the included blade scabbard protects the cutting bar during transport and storage.
The two-handed starting system requires both operating controls to be engaged before the blades move. It can be used comfortably by right- or left-handed operators and helps reduce accidental activation.
